Album: "Walk This
Way"
Sounding like the first band that
takes the Killers as a major influence, Chicago's The White
Tie Affair storm the airwaves with "Walk This Way," which came
out earlier in 2008 and has garnered notice for
its angular grooves and the heroic vocals of singer Chris
Wallace. This is not a group that meanders its way through a
record; indeed, "Walk This Way" arrives with a big-beat groove
on "Allow Me to Introduce Myself ... Mr. Right" and doesn't
let up. "Candle (Sick and Tired)" is a love letter to Erasure, and "The
Letdown" is a highly effective slam-dance of Depeche Mode and
Justin Timberlake.

"Hideaway"
If the Weepies, a dynamic duo from
Boston, sound strangely familiar to you, well, that's because
their songs are probably on your favorite TV show. Over the
past few years, the voices of leaders Steve Tannen and Deb
Talan have graced the plotlines and montages of "Grey's
Anatomy," "One Tree Hill," and "Gossip Girl," to name a few.
Their third full-length, "Hideaway," came out earlier this
year, with some tracks that strike out new chamber pop
territory. Influences such as the Pernice Brothers, Moldy Peaches and Joni Mitchell haunt
"Hideaway," which gently and irrevocably grows on your ears
and heart.
